Baseball Quilt...

My mom quilts. She has made a couple of quilts for the Mix and Match STL booth, (Booth 11) at General Grant Antique Mall.

This quilt was designed by her, pieced, and machine quilted by her. She used a Cardinal Tshirt, and 100% cotton, quilt material. It is brand new, never been used.  It fits a twin sized bed, and perfect for the baseball fan in your house.

Come check it out:

Made by my mom and co-owner of Mix and Match STL.

Trying something new...

My grandma gave to me a piece of furniture with the explicit instructions to do something with it. I knew it was going to get a coat of paint. (It was a good candidate. A sturdy piece of furniture, but not anything fancy enough that it would be a crime against humanity to paint.)

Our philosophy behind the booth is that we acquire the kind of stuff that we would have in our own houses. It's a test of my resolve not to keep some of my favorite finds (the Viking Glass is a recent example. I love glass.) for my own house. I promised the Mister that the booth was not just an excuse to be a hoarder. Like hoarding is a bad thing. As long as you can still walk through the house....

Anyway... My general color palette consists of green, blue, and red. (basically the green and blue are there to make my favorite color look better). I also love pink, but save most of the pink for dishes and pink depression glass that looks stunning with my collection of green glass. I've been dabbling a bit into violet and rich lavenders, but in small bits. They are still very neutral. I've been watching alot of HGTV, and reading magazines, and watching PinInterest for the latest trends. I keep seeing orange. I've never really been a fan of orange (probably because it generally doesn't go with red.)

So I had this piece of furniture that screamed "Accent Piece!" It could totally support a loud color. My instinct was to go with a faded red, my personal favorite for the time being (it really sparks with gray and lavender), but a little voice in my head, and a recent episode of "Fixer Upper" whispered "Try orange." I said out loud, "I don't do orange." Then I saw an interesting photo in House Beautiful and remembered all the quilting material with a deep red-orange that popped. I remembered that Annie Sloan has a color called "Barcelona Orange", and decided to give it a try with the  stipulation that I could always tone down the orange with dark wax (not my favorite thing to use; it is a challenge for sure).

Here we go! It turned out better than I would have dreamed. It's not the best photo, but presents itself really well in our booth (Booth 11 at the General Grant Antique Mall, in St. Louis). Come check it out.

Officially the color is by Behr, called Carrot Stick.
But I also used a dark wax, which darkened the color.

New for February!

Recently added to Booth 11 at the General Grant Antique Mall!

A painted cedar chest. I'd put it under a window, making a window seat and storage for those special items that you want to protect from moths.

Painted in Benjamin Moore Manchester tan for easy color matching.
I've recently realized that I've collected a bunch of vintage Viking glass. Now you can too! And a Carnival glass egg plate that I adore. My photography does not do it justice.

A weathered solid wood chair in a dark blue. I'm not going to lie. I enjoy sitting in this chair. I will miss it when it's gone.

I don't remember the name of this paint.
It will look good in any office.

A vintage lamp, in really good shape.

Our Second Post!

It's coming right along. I'm sitting at my desk with Raspy on my lap this chilly Janaury Thursday night to try to share the latest update at the Mix and Match STL booth at General Grant Antique Mall. My mom and I put alot of work into the booth this past Monday for a reorganization and introduction of new items.

I promise to get better at photography and highlighting new items. If you knew my true photo talent, or lack thereof, you would appreciate what I've done here.

I've added a couple of vintage Viking glass pieces. I think the color is called "Bluenique".  You can't see it from afar, but it's in the first picture, next to the carnival glass egg platter.

This is the view when you're walking down the first aisle at General Grant Antique Mall.

Can you spot the Viking Bluenique pieces?
 This is the other wall.
Pretty much all the pieces on this side are new. The desk/ dressing table is painted in Annie Sloan Old White Chalk Paint, highlighted with the color Paloma (also the same color that the shelf in the above picture is painted. I'll admit that it's one of my favorite colors. It's so damn pretty. and versatile. Hard to believe, but I think it's pretty neutral. Goes with pretty much any color scheme.

Funny, this picture is supposed to highlight the desk, but the Mr/Mrs Tea towels really stand out.
Can you spot the mirror?
I painted that with Annie Sloan Primer Red, and used dark wax. This picture does not capture how awesome it turned out. I totally want the mirror for my house. just a kick of color.

This is Raspy 6 months ago.
He loves me and only me.
